Interview with Mykyta Gryzunov

Mykyta Gryzunov, an alumnus of the American Graduate School of Business (AGSB), shares his student experience and life after B-school. Below are the highlights of his conversation.

Originally from Ukraine, Mykyta came to Switzerland six years ago to pursue a career in the hospitality industry, and aspired to be an entrepreneur in the same industry or allied industries. He was keen about knowing the invisible problems faced by restaurateurs that only specialists could teach. Mykyta believes that academics who work and teach at the same time are most likely to have the best and most current insights into industry challenges, opportunities and technology. It was the reason why he chose to join the Masters of International Business Administration (MIBA) program at AGSB.

Another reason was the mix of theoretical education and industry application that AGSB assured students. The school also provided Mykyta the flexible schedule he wanted to develop his own entrepreneurship-related project on the side. AGSB’s program leaders worked out a schedule that was compatible with his own.

Mykyta says that he was initially concerned about the small student population at the school. But it soon turned into optimism when he realized that a low student-teacher ratio translated into more individualized attention and stronger relationships. It came in handy at the time of writing the business plan for his restaurant, which – with his professors’ assistance – became a reality, and has been in operation for over a year now.  Mykyta is already on to his next business idea, which combines the outsourcing of pre-fabricated housing construction and interior design, with personalized furniture production.

Mykyta describes AGSB’s MIBA program as ‘efficient, adaptable and fun’, and appreciates that the professors don’t teach students how to do things, rather, they teach them to think how to do things.
